AIPM National Conference 2007
AIPM National Conference 2007
As you may be aware the Australian Institute of Project Management’s annual conference was held in Hobart,
on October 6th – 8th. Nearly 500 people registered to attend the conference, and it was an interesting few days.
The conference provided a wonderful opportunity to meet with people involved in both Australian and international projects. The conference created a collegial and supportive environment for participants to openly discuss new and emerging ideas, along with challenges, frustrations and battle scars.
Sharyn and Bronwyn attended the conference, where their images were captured for posterity:

Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Pictured with Warren Lewis from the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services,
looking brighter and slightly less alert after a few champagnes at the national
Project Management Achievement Awards dinner.

Closing Projects Respectfully
Sharyn spoke on behalf of Leftfield Solutions at the recent AIPM conference. The presentation was included under the "Reality Bites" stream of the conference. The presentation considered the traditional approach to project evaluation and closure, and raised some serious questions around acknowledging the human capital that projects consume. The presenter's involvement with both the early and planned closures of several business projects in 2006 and 2007 was used as a case study to illustrate key points.
The key message centred on the importance of project closure as a mechanism to build organisational capability and sustainability. While the respectful closure of projects is important for successful projects, it is absolutely essential for projects that are not successful.
A copy of the presentation is attached at the top of this page.
